A website belonging to acandidate for Bega Valley Shire Council has been chosen fora state-wide collection documentingthe recent local governmentelection.

DavidPorter will have his website added to thePANDORA web archive, which wasestablished by the National Library in 1996 and is a collection of historic online publications relating to Australia.

Online publications and websites are selected for inclusion in the collection with the purpose of providing long-term access to them.

“For me it’s a terrific honour that the state library has an interest in something I have put online relating to the local elections,” Mr Porter said.

“Ithas used that as a reference point to the elections and how the internet can be used in the election process.”

The website –which can be found at苏州美甲美睫培训学校–had Mr Porter’s bio,information on how to vote,his policies and objectives, as well as his contact details.

Aftermany years working in IT, including in Microsoft with Bill Gates, andspending two decadesoverseasthe Bega-born man moved to Tathraabout a year ago and decided to run for council.

“It seemed only natural when I was running for council that I would set up an online presence,” he said.

While Mr Porter was unsuccessful at the election –pulling in387 votes on first preferences –he said he was still satisfied with the result for someone who was not well-known around the area.

“For me it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about making the area better,” he said.

He planned to stand for council again in the future.

A spokesperson from the state library said the PANDORA Archive was a selective collection of web publications and websites relating to Australia and Australians.

They said it includes materials that document the cultural, social, political life and activities of the Australian community and intellectual and expressive activities of Australians.
