It comes as one Hayresident looks to launch legal action against the telecommunications giant, alleging continuousterrible mobile phone and internet services.

Businesswoman Krista Schade has written an open letter to Telstra stating her intention to “recover lost income and overcharges” for residents in Hay.

“Hay 2711 has had many reported issues relating to intermittent signaland service on either the 3G or 4g network, as well as ADSL service tohomes and businesses,” she posted to Facebook.

“I personally have had several frustrating interactions with ‘tech support’ – and I use that term very loosely – who have advised thatmountainsmay be interrupting the signal.”

Ms Schade said the lack of internet connection often meant purchasing extra mobile phone data.

“My business is being affected – we use several systems (cloudaccounting, RMS websites, CTP providers, banking and more) which rely oninternet service and Telstra seems incapable of providing a reliableservice,” she wrote.

Hay Shire Mayor Bill Sheaffe said he was well aware of the lack of Telstra phone coverage across the local government area.

“Coverage is far less than perfect,” he said. “It is abysmal.”

Cr Sheaffe also laughed off claims that mountains around Hay could be interrupting the signal.

“I haven’t heard that before,” Cr Sheaffe said.

“Hay is one of the flattest places in the world.”

Telstra confirmed area general manager Chris Talyor was meeting with Hay Shire Council soon.

“We are aware that some customers have experienced mobile connectivity issues in the area and we are working to resolve those as quickly as possible,” Mr Taylor said.

“At this stage we have no signs of ADSL congestion on the network in the area so it is important that if any Telstra customers are experiencing issues with their speeds that they report this on 132 203 so we can examine their individual circumstances.”
