Outgoing Indigo Council Deputy Mayor Peter Croucher has left big shoes to fill for candidates–but Rob Allsop is up for the task.

The Gundowring electrician was backed byCr Croucher to representthe Kiewa Valleyendof the shire.

“So far the feedback has been positive –people are happy I’m doing it,” he said.

“I want to bring a bit of honesty and trust to council and keeping everything on track –roadsrepaired, rates reasonableand facilities upgraded.”

Mr Allsop said he hoped Tangambalanga would continue to develop, building onCr Croucher’s efforts.

“I can see itreally taking off and I’mhoping for a supermarket and even public transport coming out from Wodonga,” he said.

“There is talk of arail trail from Huon Reserveover to Yackandandah …it would be great for tourism.

“Communityclubs are also always looking for grants and I would like to help Chilternget a better facility, as I’veseen what their grounds are like in the middle of winter.”

Indigo mayor James Trenery, who hopes to retain a position on council, welcomed fresh faces but said experienced councillors were also crucial to a smooth operation.

“It’s always good to have some renewing of the council, but also good to have a few old heads there,” he said.

“The next 12 months is huge –we have to do a new council plan andwith rate capping it’s going tobe a tough budget, so you need those that havebeen through it.”

Cr Trenery said if re-elected, SES funding would be at the top of his priority list.

“I led the push to make sure funding stayed in …I’m stilltalkingto the SES and the government,” he said.

“These people volunteer their time and that’s what the community is about.”

Cr Trenery said he would like to see capital works spending stay the same, with any budget tightening to instead come out of increased efficiency.

“I’ve really enjoyedthe last four years and enjoyed being mayor the last 12 months –Igot to see all the good projects happening right across the shire,” he said.

“Council works better with community-minded people.”
