Other sport chaplains in attendance will include Steve Peach and Doug Rowin, who both serve at certain races.

Bathurst Presbyterian Church pastor Tristan Merkel said chaplains play an important role for drivers on race day and in their personallives.

“They [chaplains] chat to drivers for support duringaccidents and in general circumstances,” ReverendMerkel said.

“They are someone that driverscan come to chat toand chaplains can pray for them and speak about the hope we have in Jesus.”

The night will be a simple barbecue dinner featuringchats from different chaplains about motor sport and their faith, before Mr Coleman will present a talk based onthe Bible.

“Motor sport and faith are similar concepts,” Reverend Merkel said.

“Hundreds of thousands of people will gather for a spectacle like the Bathurst 1000 and share a passion with other fans, much like Christians do when they come to church.

“The race will come and go and we should be excited for the Bathurst 1000, but Jesuswill lastforever.”

The night will be held at the Majellan Bowls Club on Keppel Street, with $10 coveringthe cost for dinner. Drinks will beavailable at the bar.
